Žabljak

About Žabljak

There are 18 glacial lakes in the Durmitor massif, the most famous of them is Black Lake. It consists of two lakes, which sometimes, merging, form a real waterfall. This lake is popularly called the “eyes of the mountains.” And it got its name due to the fact that the mountain is reflected in its waters, giving the water a special dark shade. The water in this lake is very clean.

At any time of the year, there are plenty of tourists: in winter, those who want to ski, and the rest of the time – nature lovers, hiking lovers and mountain air lovers. In January, skiing competitions, auto racing, “Winter Cup of Montenegro” are organised here; in March, the Durmitor Skiing Cup, which is actively gaining popularity. However, life here is also in full in the summer time: in July, fans of cycling come here, because there is a grand bike tour on Mount Durmitor (“Durmitor Ring”), and in August, exciting jeep rallies.

The ski season starts from December and lasts until the end of March. The average thickness of the snow cover during the season is 110 cm, with an average temperature of +2 – +8 degrees Celsius. And in the high-mountain place of Debeli Namet, you can enjoy skiing all year.

In addition to skiing and snowboarding, in winter in Žabljak you can go ride a snowmobile, snowshoe, or you can do sports in one of the fitness centres, or relax in the spa complex.
