River Uvac
The River Uvac Canyon
For 119 km, the Uvac River cuts a deep and winding valley through the dramatic karst landscape of mountain peaks, towering slopes and vast caves. Among such attractive places, the Meredrads stand out, as a particularly bright part of the picturesque canyon Uvac. The Meandras are a series of loop-like bends that the river has carved out of its limestone layer for thousands of years. In this area of the canyon walls can fly 100 meters above the surface of the river. The result is a natural wonder of nature, which impresses all guests of Serbia without exception. The Uvatz River Meandras are part of the Uwatz Reserve, a protected area first created in 1971. It currently covers a total of 7543 hectares.
The Uvac Reserve
The reserve is home to several rare species of birds and fish, including a shope, an eagle, a guest, a guinea pig, a boucher and a horseback. The river of incredible green color is wrapped in a zigzag on a steep limestone cliff - this is a feat of nature, especially beautiful from a bird's eye view. The reserve consists of a cave system with a length of 6 km and owes its protected status to 219 species of plants, 24 species of fish and 130 species of birds, including endangered griffins.
