Topola, Oplenac and mountain Avala
Topola
Topola is a small Serbian town located in Šumadija, 80 km from Belgrade. In the first half of the 19th century, this city was the central city and capital of Serbia. Such an honour fell to a small settlement, since it was this place that the leader of the First Serbian uprising, g Georgy Petrovich (Karageorgiy), made his residence.
The tour program includes a visit to the mausoleum of the royal Karageorgievich dynasty, the summer residence of the Karageorgievich dynasty – the house of King Peter, the Karageorgi Museum and a luxurious park.
Oplenac
Near the town of Topola, there is Oplenac hill, on which the Mausoleum of the Karađorđević dynasty was built.
Today, the complex includes, in addition to the Church of St. George and the Mausoleum of the Serbian Royal Family, also the royal vineyards, the museum (Vineyard House), the house of King Peter, the king’s mansion, the queen’s mansion, the Karageorgi Church, the Karageorgi monument, the hotel.
Avala
On the way back to Belgrade, a visit to Mount Avala is planned.
Avala is the nearest mountain, 16 km southeast of Belgrade. Its height is 511 meters above sea level. The mountain is completely located in the administrative part of the city. At the top of the mountain stands the Mausoleum of an unknown hero.
A little lower is the Monument to Soviet military leaders, as well as a restored TV tower 204.5 meters high, now the tallest building in Serbia and the Balkans, which offers a wonderful view of Belgrade, Vojvodina and Shumadia.
